Bursa, Türkiye – 31 October 2026. An orbital wrapping machine – also called a horizontal stretch wrapping machine or orbital stretch wrapper – is one of the most effective ways to protect long, flat and bulky products at the end of a production line. The right machine, however, depends on what you wrap, how fast you produce and how your line is built. This guide walks through the five questions our engineers ask every customer before recommending a model.
What is an orbital wrapping machine?A horizontal stretch wrapping machine carries the product on conveyors through a rotating ring. A film reel mounted on the ring turns around the product and applies stretch film in a spiral while the product moves forward. The ratio between ring speed and conveyor speed sets the overlap and the number of layers, so the same machine can apply a light dust cover or a heavy, multi-layer transport wrap. Unlike pallet wrappers, orbital wrappers handle products of unlimited length: profiles, pipes, doors, panels, furniture, frames and coils.
You can compare all models on our horizontal stretch wrapping machines page.
1. Start with the product cross-sectionThe most important figure is the largest width × height of your product. It must pass through the ring opening with enough clearance for the film reel. Edda orbital wrappers come in several ring sizes: compact machines such as the Olympia 100 S and Spinner 600 S suit profiles, mouldings and pipes; the Spinner 1000 S orbital stretch wrapper and the Spinner 1500 S cover doors, cabinet fronts and panels; the Spinner 1800 S and Spinner 2200 S are built for sofas, beds and other large furniture.
2. Check the smallest product as wellShort or thin parts matter just as much as large ones. The conveyor gap at the ring and the minimum product length decide whether small items can be wrapped reliably. The Spinner 600 S and 1000 S, for example, wrap parts down to 100 × 18 mm in cross-section and 550–600 mm in length with the short-part option. Product length has no upper limit.
3. Match the machine to your outputOutput depends on two speeds: how fast the conveyor carries the product (m/min) and how fast the ring turns (rpm). On the Spinner series, conveyor speeds reach 10–15 m/min and ring speeds up to 85 rpm. For high-volume profile lines, the Speedwrap 550 runs at up to 36 m/min with a ring speed of up to 140 rpm, which makes it a strong choice as a window and PVC profile wrapping machine.
4. Decide on the protection levelMost products only need stretch film to stay clean and bundled. Lacquered, high-gloss or otherwise surface-sensitive parts usually need cushioning as well. Edda BN models, such as the Spinner 1000 S BN automatic bubble wrap machine, apply an air bubble film layer and a stretch film layer in a single pass, so no manual bubble-wrapping station is required. On the new Spinner series, film pre-stretch also lowers film consumption per package.
5. Plan for line integrationAn orbital wrapper can work stand-alone, but it delivers most when it is part of an automated flow. Infeed and outfeed conveyors, buffer tables, centring units and other Edda machines can be combined into one line. Examples include the Speedwrap Profiline PVC profile wrapping line and the Spinner 1800 automated furniture packaging line. See all automated packaging lines.
Special products: frames and coilsAssembled window and door frames need a machine that wraps tall, narrow products standing on edge: the Framewrap series is designed for exactly that. Tyres, rims, hoses and cable coils are wrapped through their centre hole by the Crosswrap series.
