CASE STUDY End of Line Heavy Duty Pallet Packaging Automation Spinner 2200 S

Industry Construction Materials and Industrial Building Products Manufacturing

Location Detroit Michigan USA

Application Area Fully Automatic End of Line Pallet Wrapping

Invested Technology  EDDA Spinner 2200 S Pallet Fully Automatic End of Line Packaging Machine

Introduction and Project Background

In the industrial heart of the United States Detroit Michigan a global manufacturer operating in the field of building materials and insulation technologies was facing a critical logistics bottleneck at the final stage of its production line The facility was producing heavy and large scale building material pallets in very high volumes

Traditional rotary table manual or semi automatic wrapping systems could not keep up with the high production speed required intensive manual labor and most importantly could not guarantee that pallets weighing up to 3 tons would remain stable during long distance transport The company started searching for a fully automatic end of line pallet packaging system that operates completely untouched features maximum occupational safety standards and can seamlessly handle heavy industrial loads

EDDA Packaging stepped in with its engineering power and customized solutions to design and successfully commission the tailored Spinner 2200 S Pallet line for the facility

The Challenges

Extremely Heavy and Wide Loads The weight of the produced pallets reached up to 3 tons Standard conveyors and packaging machines carried risks of mechanical fatigue and breakdown under continuous operations at this tonnage

Inadequate Packaging Standards and Damage Risks It was impossible to standardize stretch film tension with manual wrapping This caused pallets to collapse or products to get damaged during overseas and intercity truck shipments

Logistics and Labor Bottlenecks The continuous presence of multiple forklift operators in the packaging area increased the risk of work accidents and led to operational slowdowns at the end of the line

Lack of Safety Systems In a facility dedicated to heavy industrial manufacturing there was an urgent need for an intelligent barrier system that makes human machine interaction completely safe and fully compliant with strict safety regulations

Developed Solution EDDA Spinner 2200 S Technology

EDDA engineers installed the Spinner 2200 S horizontal orbital stretch wrapping line integrated with heavy duty conveyors specially developed for the facility in Detroit The operational logic and technical superiorities of the system are as follows

2200 mm Ring Diameter Thanks to its massive 2200 mm ring cross section the machine can wrap all kinds of large scale pallets industrial panels or building material blocks entering these geometric boundaries without any difficulty

3 Ton Capacity Heavy Duty Conveyors The roller conveyors used at the inlet and outlet of the line are manufactured in accordance with heavy industrial conditions They operate smoothly silently and with high precision under a 3000 kg pallet load without any wear

Smart Flow Control and Buffer Zone The forklift operator simply leaves the raw pallet at the inlet conveyor Smart sensors automatically detect the pallet and pull it into the wrapping cell without any human intervention When the wrapping process is finished and the product arrives at the outlet if the forklift is not ready yet the system automatically creates a buffer zone Pallets are kept in an orderly queue at the end of the line As the forklift removes finished products the automation system automatically feeds the line end forward

High Level Personnel Safety Systems The line is fully equipped with industrial safety fences light curtains and emergency stop modules If any personnel approaches the wrapping cell without authorization the system stops the operation within milliseconds to eliminate industrial accidents

Results and Advantages

You can watch the live field performance of the system by visiting our  Fully Automatic Pallet Wrapping Line The Ultimate Solution for Heavy Loads  video The following concrete achievements were obtained at the factory in Detroit after the investment

100 Percent Product Security Thanks to the controlled and high pre stretch technology offered by the Spinner 2200 S the stretch film locks perfectly onto the pallet Problems such as pallet scattering or product shifting during shipment have been completely eliminated

Minimum Stretch Film Consumption Thanks to the digital tension control a significant raw material saving in stretch film consumption has been achieved compared to manual wrapping

Zero Manual Labor It has become sufficient for the forklift operator only to drop and pick up the product Wrapping cutting welding and end of line advancement processes are completely autonomous

Uninterrupted Production Flow Thanks to buffer zone management packaging related downtimes are not experienced in the factory and production flows continuously 24 7

Conclusion

EDDA Spinner 2200 S has proven in one of the most demanding industrial production fields in America that speed safety and savings can be offered together in the end of line packaging of heavy loads For all global manufacturers producing large heavy and unstable products this line is the key to operational excellence
