Automatic PVC Profile Packaging Line Replaces Manual Wrapping

Automatic PVC Profile Packaging Line Replaces Manual Wrapping

Edda Packaging Machines has delivered a fully automatic PVC profile packaging line to a global PVC profile manufacturer with production in Türkiye. The line wraps a 6 m PVC profile bundle in less than 50 seconds, places and detects the wooden supports automatically, and replaces a manual process that needed about 10 people.

This PVC profile wrapping machine project combines the Olympia 150 S orbital stretch wrapping machine with custom conveyors, wooden support placement, centering, sensors and safety light curtains. The result is a complete PVC profile packaging automation line that one forklift operator and two assistant operators can run easily and safely.

How PVC Profiles Were Packed Before

Before this project, packing PVC profile bundles at the customer plant was a manual job. About 10 people worked together to load and unload each bundle, wrap it by hand with PE film and secure it with tape. The work needed many people, and the wrapped bundles had an unattractive appearance.

The wooden supports under the bundle made the job harder. They were first taped to the bundle, then the area was wrapped again with stretch film around the large cross section of the bundle, so that the supports would not fall off. This extra step was difficult to do neatly and added more manual work to each bundle.

The New PVC Profile Packaging Line

At the heart of the new line is the Olympia 150 S, an automatic horizontal orbital wrapping machine from Edda Packaging Machines. Edda built a special automation line around it, so the wrapping machine, the conveyors and the safety system work together as one project.

The line includes custom conveyors for long profile bundles, a wooden support placement system, a centering system that positions each bundle, wooden support sensors that detect the supports automatically, safety light curtains and a touchscreen operator panel.

The orbital wrapping ring applies stretch film around the bundle automatically, so the wooden supports no longer need to be taped and wrapped by hand. According to its product specification, the Olympia 150 S handles products of unlimited length, with film up to 250 mm wide and ring speeds of up to 60 rpm.

Results for the Customer

The new line changes the way the customer packs PVC profiles. One forklift operator and two assistant operators who watch the process now complete all steps, instead of about 10 people working by hand. The line is designed to make the work easy and safe for the operators.

A 6 m PVC profile bundle is wrapped in less than 50 seconds. The finished bundle has a clean and uniform stretch film wrap, instead of the untidy look of hand wrapping.

In short, the line brings four benefits to PVC profile packing. These are less labour, a safer process, faster bundle wrapping and a better looking pack.
